WHH Offers Robotic Prostatectomy

Dr. Sijo Parekattil, Director of Urology and Robotics at the Winter Haven Hospital is using the da Vinci surgical robot to perform prostatectomy, reverse vasectomies and other urology related procedures.

The robotic system includes an exclusive console at a particular distance from the patient. The surgeon sits at the console and using the hand controls, the microscopic surgical instruments are controlled during the surgery.

Dr. Parekattil is the first surgeon at WHH to perform the robot-assisted surgery. Along with Florida University and Lance Anastasio, President of WHH, he has been working to widen cancer and urology programs of the hospital.

Parekattil expressed his excitement to be a part of widening WHH’s program. He mentioned that he is looking forward to recruit two or three new specialists in another few years.
