Cleveland Clinic Surgeons Perform Robotic Prostatectomy

Dr. Alok Shirivastava and his team at the Cleveland Clinic are performing robot-assisted procedures for prostate cancer treatment.

The traditional surgery methods do not enable patients to fully regain their bladder and sexual functions. But robot-assisted surgery includes both robotics and three dimensional technologies, making this procedure more accurate.

During the robotic procedure, Dr. Shrivastava and his team utilize an exclusive console and a couple of screens, measuring 110 inches for obtaining a magnified high definition three dimensional image of the  area to be operated.

Dr. Shrivastava has stated that robotic surgery assures improved safety as robotic arms do not touch or remove tissues unnecessarily. The enhanced accuracy ensures protection of vital tissues and nerves.
