The Russian Black Sea Fleet will deploy the Seaeye Panther Plus remotely operated vehicle (ROV) to carry out rescue operations like torpedo recovery and to provide support pods for saving lives in distraught submarines.
Seaeye Panther Plus can function up to 1000 meters of depth. The ROV was deployed by the Black Sea Fleet after a thorough analysis and a deepwater operation for 50 hours at maximum depths of 100 meters.
The decision to procure Seaeye Panther Plus was made following the tangling of Russia’s AS-28 submarine in the Bering Sea at 190 meters of depth in a fishing net in August 2005. The submarine was recovered by a British ROV named Scorpio 45 by incising the cables of the fishing net.
Major applications of Seaeye Panther Plus include monitoring of pipelines, installation of cables, supporting drills and inspection of nondestructive testing (NDT).
