NASA Sponsors Horn Lake Robotics Team to Compete in FIRST Contest

NASA has offered a grant worth $5,000 to the Robotics team of Horn Lake High School to enable the team to contend in the For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) regional robotics contest in Los Angeles. By winning the regional contest, the team will contend in the FIRST World Championship, which will be held in St. Louis.

In the FIRST contest, teams are supposed to develop robots, which can successfully complete obstacle routes and accomplish the desired tasks. Students can further upgrade their robots up to a value of $3,500. The height and weight limits of the robot are 72 inches and 125 pounds respectively. Horn Lake robotics team is competing in the FIRST contest for the second time and they won the Rookie All-Star award during their previous FIRST contest.

Brian Jones leads the HL Robotics team and he has stated that NASA wants them to ensure that their team will continue to perform. He added that their team has been formally recognized by NASA.

It was reported that the students of the Horn lake robotics team will be developing their new robot till March and will participate in the FIRST regional contest during their spring holidays.
