Harbin Electric Develops SGM258 Motor for Automated Car Trunk Opening

Harbin Electric, China-based electric motors developer, has declared the release of SGM258 Motor, the latest model of innovative micro-motors, for single-touch automatic opening car trunk, in its new production plant in Shanghai. These micro-motors will be delivered to Shanghai General Motors (Shanghai GM) through Magna International.

Last month, Harbin received a production authorization for this new product after 2 years of intense research. After completing the testing phase for a month, the product has been formally launched for production.

The SGM258 Motor is utilized in the latest model of Buick GL8 luxury business car, which is exclusively developed by Shanghai GM for the Chinese automotive market. The micro-motor has several applications and can also be utilized for other cars featuring the same kind of perpendicularly opening trunks.

The manufacturing equipment of the micro-motor is the latest and completely-automated manufacture line featuring high-end quality control and testing devices. The major stations of the manufacture line include the latest innovative error-proof functions, assuring reliable product quality. The production line can manufacture 800,000 units per year.

Mr. Yang, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Harbin Electric, expressed his pleasure on receiving the approval from Shanghai GM for including their products in Shanghai GM’s cars, representing a major milestone in their micro-motor business. He mentioned that this approval will enable them to obtain market share and become a provider to other significant global automotive manufacturers. He added that they are determined to release around 3 micro-motors over the next couple of years.
