CareFusion has announced that it will display its Pyxis dispensing technologies, Pyxis Point of Care verification, Alaris infusion technologies and PHACTS products, at the 45th Midyear Clinical Meeting and Exhibition of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP), California between 6 and 8 December 2010.
It was reported that the Pyxis closed-loop medication management system has reduced medication inaccuracies up to 33% at the US-based hospitals. This is achieved by means of interlinked devices that reorganize the medication and delivery management methods from the receiving locations of the hospital to their patients and helping caregivers by offering decision assisting tools. For instance, by deploying Pyxis systems, medication errors in a 300-bed medical center have been slashed by 93%.
CareFusion technology also helps medical centers to store reduced medication stock, liberating working capital, enhancing medication accessibility, predictability and ability by safely holding oral solids, pre-mixed IVs, refrigerated drugs in the Pyxis MedStation system. This cost-effective approach saves time and enhances the nature of patient care.
It was found that every year roughly 1.5 million Americans are affected and 7000 patients die due to medication inaccuracies, resulting in an annual expenditure of $3.5 billion by the U.S. health care system.
