Emerson Process Management has received a contract from Petrobras to supply automation services and technologies for various processes in the Brazil-based Petrochemical Complex of Rio de Janeiro (Comperj) project.
This contract depicts the confidence of Petrobras in the industrial proficiency of Emerson as well as in Emerson’s major Latin-American investments. Emerson will supply latest technologies and engineering services for automating the process and integrating the systems of the refining machinery, offsite tasks, special utilities, which are the major components of the Comperj Project.
The Comperj complex covers 45 million sq m of area. Everyday, around 165,000 barrels of heavy crude will be processed by the complex. The preliminary unit is scheduled to start its operations in 2013 and the second unit will start functioning after five years, delivering the same output. This refining facility will assist Brazil’s increasing oil production. It is estimated that around 200,000 jobs will be generated by this project.
Emerson is the major contractor of the project. The company will supply not only automation systems for machinery monitoring, process control, fire and gas detection, safety and management of process and maintenance information, but also pressure regulators, control valves, measurement instruments and other required services and products.
The company has started its engineering work in the site and delivery of hardware components is likely to commence by next year. All the automation tasks of the company will be headed by the Rio de Janeiro and Sorocaba-based Emerson team.
