Evana Automation Specialists, a leading Systems Integrator and builder of custom, automated assembly and test systems, recently received a contract from a major U.S. copper and gold producer to provide a turnkey robotic loading cell. The automated solution will improve the process of loading and slicing copper sheets by integrating robotic technology.
The process will kick off after a pallet of copper sheets enters the cell. A robot will pick an individual sheet from the stack, weigh it to ensure correct weight, and then place it onto the automatic slicing equipment to be processed into smaller sheets. The robotic lift mechanism will be designed with spring-loaded vacuum cups to adjust to the raw copper. If the weight is not within specifications, the robot automatically places the sheet onto a reject pallet within the cell.
“Integrating robotics into the loading and slicing process was the most efficient solution,” said Randy Wire, General Manager of Evana Automation Specialists. “The ability to remove sheets that don’t meet weight requirements will improve product quality, as well as eliminate the need for manual inspection during the process.”
Evana, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries (PSI), utilizes diverse technologies to specialize in motion control, robotics integration and system architecture by linking production equipment, material handling systems, data collection, networking, and computer software and hardware into flexible, unified technology. Test equipment can be integrated into assembly systems, stand alone systems for automatic testing, or manual test benches. Overall, Evana’s custom assembly and test solutions improve efficiency for manufacturers all over the world in industries like automotive, aerospace, defense, healthcare and mining.
