Universal Robots opens new U.S. headquarters, expanding staff and tech support to better serve the rapidly growing customer base in North America.

Universal Robots New US Headquarters

Stony Brook, NY, September 5, 2013: Since Universal Robots introduced North America to the lightweight, user-friendly robot arms at IMTS in Chicago last August, the company has succeeded in creating a complete distribution network and achieved a quick market penetration. Sales manager in North America, Ed Mullen, explains that a brick and mortar headquarter manifests Universal Robots position as the industry pioneer of collaborative robots:

“We’re now able to offer live demos at our own location, conduct training seminars, and house local tech support. Improvements ensuring that our customer and distributor base here in North America receives a quick, detailed response.”

The 5600 square feet headquarter is centrally located in an industrial park on Technology Drive in Stony Brook, Long Island, New York, close to the airports.

“As the address implies, we’re part of an ecosystem here that breathes high-tech. Our new office also has warehouse facilities enabling us to stock robots and spare parts, setting us up for future expansion assembling the robots here in New York. This will result in even faster delivery,” says Ed Mullen.

Local tech support
Universal Robots has also expanded its staff with the hiring of the new tech support manager, Tom Moolayil, who comes from Motoman Robots where he led a team developing a Motosync-ROS Industrial interface in conjunction with SWRI (South Western Research Institute). Tom is a graduate of the Master's Program in Robotic Systems Development at Carnegie Mellon University, where Universal Robots has started collaborating with the director, Professor Hagen Schempf.

“Tom Moolayil offers a balance of a great education along with experience in our field. Having spent time with Motoman developing the ROS Industrial interface, Tom has an immediate connection to industrial robots and how they are applied,” says Ed Mullen.

“I’m excited to see Tom grow in his career with Universal Robots and am confident he will help us build a world class technical support department.”

Tom Moolayil will be addressing all tech related inquiries from distributors and end users in North America and will also head up the advanced training classes offered at the new U.S. office.
