Baxa Launches New Version of Automated DoseEdge Pharmacy Workflow Software

Baxa, a leading supplier of pharmacy automation solutions, has launched an improved version of its DoseEdge Pharmacy Workflow Software, an automated pharmacy workflow management tool.

The new automation software validates the utilization of accurate medication dosage and also verifies concentrations and diluents in IV compounding, TPN and oral liquid dosage. The DoseEdge 2010.2 software enables users to benefit from a variety of compounded doses by means of an improved formulary database.

The new version includes 39 enhancements and performance improvements. The FormularyPlus feature of the enhanced version of DoseEdge allows the identification of around 14,000 drug products through barcode scanning. It also allows easy maintenance and inclusion of new products.

Further, DoseEdge extends safety benefits in preparation of unit-dose oral liquids and also estimates dose volumes. It also validates accurate product concentrations based on the overall volume specifications.

Other features of the new version include enhanced email alerts and new Windows support.

Larry Gibson, Product Manager, Baxa Corporation, has stated that all medical centers across the nation utilize DoseEdge to prepare thousands of safe medication doses daily. He added that the new software version helps the pharmacy Directors to effectively manage pharmacy operations and their medical teams can easily cope with increased oral and IV preparation requirements.

The company has reported that DoseEdge had processed more than 5 million safe doses since its launch. It has also prevented 100,000 preparation errors by barcode validation of every drug component.
