i-Tech, a division of Subsea 7, has received a contract worth US $18million from Petrobras International to offer remotely operated vehicle (ROV) services aboard a recently built underwater drillship. Though the preliminary term of the contract is five years, it can be extended by another five years.
Offshore tasks are expected to start in Gulf of Mexico during the third quarter of 2011.The drillship will be utilized for drilling tasks worldwide.
It was reported that i-Tech will offer a newly developed Quantum work-class system of power 150 hp. It can function in deepwater, up to a depth of 4,000msw. The ROV is enclosed in the garaged tether management system. This system will be employed by means of a rail guided launch and recovery system, developed to operate under similar environmental conditions as the drillship.
Bruce Masson, Managing Director, i-Tech, expressed his pleasure on being selected for this contract from Petrobras, which follows their recently obtained contracts from Petrobras for various operations in offshore Brazil. He mentioned that their Houston-based operation crew members are looking forward for the arrival of the drillship and with their global expertise they can successfully support the vessel when it is allotted to other global locations.
