CoroWare Technologies, a wholly owned subsidiary of CoroWare, Inc. announced today that it has signed a membership agreement of the National Science Foundation (NSF) Safety, Security, and Rescue Research Center (SSR-RC) with the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Charlotte for cooperative research in advanced robotics for homeland security, health care, and search and rescue.
The NSF SSR-RC comprises site universities, including the University of Minnesota, University of Pennsylvania, University of Denver, and UNC Charlotte, and industry partners. The mission of the UNC Charlotte site is to conduct partner-oriented, multi-disciplinary research on robotic and sensor systems augmented by data analysis, to improve the safety, capability and well-being of humans.
"Launching this research center will help UNC Charlotte's research center link its robotics research initiatives with industry partners such as CoroWare to increase industry competitiveness and stimulate entrepreneurship," said Jing Xiao , Professor of Computer Science and Site Director of SSR-RC at UNC Charlotte. "Working together, the UNC Charlotte SSR-RC and CoroWare can bring new and advanced technologies to market through cooperative product development."
In support of this initiative, CoroWare has launched a robotics design and production facility in Charlotte to refine its robotics manufacturing capabilities, expand its robotics application development, and advance its mobile robotics product line to address new robotics market segments such as homeland security, health care, and search and rescue.
"We are excited to be working in close cooperation with the UNC Charlotte SSR-RC and accelerating the growth of our robotics business," said Joe Daziel , business unit manager at CoroWare. "Charlotte is proving to be an ideal location to open a robotics development center because the greater Charlotte area comprises a high concentration of science, technology, engineering and medical researchers and industry partners."
The Robotics Operation of CoroWare Charlotte (ROCC) is located at the Ventureprise - Ben Craig Center, a non-profit organization sponsored by UNC Charlotte with strong links to business leaders throughout the Charlotte region. Ventureprise provides a full range of facility and business advisory services in its 50,000 square foot building in University Research Park, and is the portal into the university for early-stage entrepreneurs seeking to leverage university resources.
