RF Technologies to Provide Infant Security Solutions for Danbury Hospital

RF Technologies®, a leading provider of radio frequency identification (RFID) healthcare safety and security solutions, has been chosen to provide infant security solutions for Danbury Hospital in Danbury, Conn., to help keep newborns safe and reduce the risk of abductions.

As part of the Western Connecticut Health Network (WCHN), Danbury Hospital delivers approximately 2500 babies each year, and the installation of the Safe Place® Infant Security Solution is one more security measure the hospital utilizes.

"Western Connecticut Health Network chose RF Technologies' Safe Place to add a higher level of security for our patients," said Eric Goodsell , project leader, technology and systems. "Safe Place provides a proven product that is a good fit in our particular nursing environment."

Three floors at Danbury Hospital are protected with Safe Place, including the family birthing and pediatric units, enabling staff to provide even better patient safety and care. Goodsell cites the installation of the Safe Place system as "professional and seamless."

The Safe Place Infant Security Solution uses reliable, lightweight transmitters and patent-pending Smart Sense® technology with multiple measures of tamper detection. The water-resistant transmitter is comfortably secured around an infant's ankle using the softest banding on the market.

Staff can easily monitor each baby via automated software that alerts them if a band is loose, has been tampered with, or has been removed from the infant.

"One of the reasons WCHN decided on Safe Place was that if a band is cut or the transmitter is missing, the system automatically locks down the unit and provides notification to nursing and security staff," Goodsell said.

The system will also automatically lock the door and notify staff members of a potential security threat if an infant wearing a transmitter comes within range of a monitored exit.
