Akonni Biosystems Offers New Family of TruTip Extraction Products

Akonni Biosystems recently declared that a new series of “smart tip” extraction products is available for rapid purification of human genomic deoxyribonucleic acid (gDNA) on the STAR line of robotic liquid handling workstations from Hamilton Microlab.

High quality gDNA from fresh or frozen blood, soon tissue or cells, buffy coat is extracted by these new TruTip kits. It allows concurrent extraction from 8 to 96 samples quickly within 57 min. The system needs no centrifuge, magnetic head, vacuum manifold, large spaces or expensive capital equipment. Bead carryover –based polymerase chain reaction (PCR) inhibition can be avoided without involving magnetic beads and reduces errors to clogging due to vacuum manifolds.

The patented TruTip product line utilizes porous nucleic acid binding matrix implanted within a pipette tip. Using chaotropic salt chemistry, the new kit can be used to extract DNA or ribonucleic acid (RNA). This new kit for gDNA executes the overall extraction process involving fully automated onboard heat incubation step within an hour, where 37 min is required for extraction and 20 min for heat incubation. The process becomes 250% more rapid when compared to traditional high-throughput approaches. TruTip provides “gold-standard-equivalent” yields and enhanced purity and reproducibility than related ones.

TruTip gDNA Kits for adoption in STAR line of workstations can be accessed by early customers. The Oragene DISCOVER and Oragene Dx Collection Kit from DNA Genotek-based TruTip applications for extraction of gDNA from saliva will soon be offered in addition to swab and Scope mouthwash input sample types. TruTip gDNA Kits can be adopted in addition to various back-end analytical tools, such as microarrays, qPCR, digital PCR, mid-multiplex bead-based systems, real time PCR, and traditional and advanced sequencing systems.
