Award Winning Robot from Universal Robots to be Displayed at IMTS in Chicago

The International Federation of Robotics and IEEE Robotics and Automation Society has designated Universal Robots’ UR5 robotic arm as "The world's most innovative robot".  Along with UR10, the award winning UR5 robotic arm will be debuted.

The UR5 and UR10 robotic arms were designed for companies looking for simple and affordable robotic solutions. The versatile and lightweight UR5 and UR10 are capable of working in sync with personnel, without requiring any safety shielding. Within the production area, the robotic arms can be moved with ease. The plug-and-play solution serves to be a simple user interface enabling inexperienced employees to quickly learn the operating skills.

The CCO of Universal Robot, Thomas Visti will introduce UR5 and UR10 to IMTS attendees.

A unique patented technology that replaces sensor technology is used by the UR5 robotic arm for measuring electrical current in its joints for determining movement and force. With this innovation, the robot can promote cost-efficiency to other automated solutions, thereby making production automation feasible for small and medium-sized enterprises.

Universal Robots will be showcased during IMTS from September 10 to 15, 2012, at Chicago.

Universal Robots is a culmination of several years of intensive research in robotics. The six-axis robot arms can be applied in a variety of industries such as massive automobile assembly lines and in small CNC lathe production.

Weighing just 40 lbs, the robots can be easily moved across the production area for achieving varied tasks. The UR5 can carry a load of 11.3 lbs; the UR10 can lift 22.6 lbs of load, and operates without using any safety shielding. The robotic arm will stop working automatically when an employee touches the robot arm and by exerting a force of 150 N.
