InTouch Health and iRobot declared that during the InTouch Health 7th Annual Clinical Innovations Forum, the companies will showcase the innovative RP-VITA (Remote Presence Virtual + Independent Telemedicine Assistant). The event will take place from July 26 to 28 in Santa Barbara, California.
Being the first remote patient care solution, the RP-VITA integrates InTouch Health's novel telemedicine technology with the modern autonomous navigation and mobility created for the iRobot Ava mobile robotics platform.
The RP-VITA has been developed following a joint development and licensing agreement between two major companies. In addition to being a broad telemedicine technology platform, the RP-VITA is the total acute care telemedicine solution's remote presence device component. InTouch Health will commercialize the RP-VITA as its new flagship remote presence device. iRobot will further look for nearby market opportunities for RP-VITA and iRobot Ava robots.
The RP-VITA enables health professionals to remotely control the clinical, patient or care team management process that leads to right and quick decision and medical action. It provides extensive clinical information and ensures the healthcare team with a new level of utility, mobility, and simple application in the acute care market.
The new innovative RP-VITA provides real-time access to major clinical data, creating new workflow improvements for the medical team. RP-VITA can be in-built within diagnostic devices such as electronic stethoscope, otoscopes and ultrasound and can also be linked to live patient data from the electronic medical record. It features an improved navigation capability through which the RP-VITA can have enhanced management in driving and navigation elements. In addition, navigation can be improved by using mapping and Obstacle Detection Obstacle Avoidance (ODOA) technologies. Also, a new, user-friendly iPad1 user interface promotes flexible navigation for RP-VITA and ensures efficient interaction with the patient, care team and the patient's family. Furthermore, the RP-VITA's additional capability integrates autonomous navigation which has been submitted to the FDA for 510(k) clearance due in Q4 2012.
InTouch Health foresees that this versatile RP-VITA platform will create additional value in leveraging team-wide care, providing maximum care experience.
