PI Unveils Hexapod Motion Controllers and 6-Axis Robotic Positioners

PI (Physik Instrumente), a designer and developer of motion control systems for nano-automation, has launched its new H-Series of 6-Axis motion Controllers and Hexapod robitic positioners.

New 6-Axis Robotic Positioners and Hexapod Motion Controllers

PI currently offers SpaceFAB six-axis positioners, besides providing the new Hexapod parallel positioners. SpaceFABs integrates the motion of three 2-axis planar positioners packed within a single low-profile 6 degree-of-freedom motion system. Following the acquisition of miCos, a precision motion control specialist, PI can efficiently deliver over 20 different parallel-kinematic positioning systems.

Unlike the classical articulated / stacked multi-axis positionersm, Hexapod parallel positioners include an actuator that is linked to the other motion axes/ actuators /in a serial configuration. All the six actuators within a hexapod positioned work in sync, creating an impact on the common motion output platform. With this design principle, the size and the moving mass have been reduced, while stiffness has been improved.

Advanced motion controllers and algorithms are essential for controlling sub-micron or nanometer-precise motion patterns in 6-D space. 6D vector controllers are provided with PI Hexapod robotic positioners. Furthermore, innovative software is available that supports programming and simulation of complicated movements. Standard Ethernet connectivity is available for remote servicing and remote control with an iPad app.

Modern hexapods have been basically designed for an automotive tire testing machine. But improvements to hexapods deliver unique precision in the sub-micrometer to nanometer fields. The extensive application potential of hexapods include disciplines like medical engineering, particle physics, telecommunication, X-ray microscopy and crystallography, laser machining, astronomy, and semiconductor test and metrology.
