Blue Belt Technologies declared the first clinical use of the NavioPFS system in a Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR). This novel system has its first use in the knee replacement surgery performed by Professor Johan Bellemans on July 10, 2012 at the University Hospital at Pellenberg, Belgium.
The NavioPFS surgical system represents advanced precision robotics in the orthopedic operating room. Following initial application in UKR surgeries, the novel system has extensive development application in otolaryngology (ENT), spine, and neurosurgery. NavioPFS achieved a CE Mark for European commercialization by the end of Q1 of 2012.
According to Professor Bellemans, chairman of the Orthopaedic Department at the University Hospitals Leuven and Pellenberg, Belgium, this innovative technology has proven its efficiency and serves as an inspirational tool. This technology contributed to exceptional surgical outcome that resulted from perfect planning and execution of the implant placement. Professor Bellemans further stated that partial knee replacements and such less-invasive surgeries have led to rapid patient recovery in addition to ensuring quick return to an active life-style. The NavioPFS system serves as a high-efficiency platform for accomplishing these surgeries with increased precision and improved results.
By incorporating the CT-free navigation system with intraoperative registration and planning, Professor Bellemans planned the left-medial knee replacement surgery followed by achieving bone preparation, which was executed less-invasively via NavioPFS sculpting handpiece.
