According to a report published in Telemedicine and e-Health, a peer-reviewed journal from Mary Ann Liebert states that the hospital’s intensive care units (ICUs) employ remote presence robots, through which critical care physicians can foster on-site patient visits as well as develop patient interactions more frequently.
Based on this technology, physicians can improve their usual patient care and promote the clinical and social effect of robotic application.
Editor-in-Chief of the Journal and Research Professor of Family and Community Medicine, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, Charles R. Doarn stated that the incorporation of robotics in healthcare enables better management of an individual’s health and also provides added value to patient care.
The survey article titled ‘Utilization of Robotic ‘Remote Presence’ Technology within North American Intensive Care Units’ was hosted by investigators at Santa Barbara, CA-based InTouch Health and the Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center at the Baltimore-based University of Maryland School of Medicine. These researchers discovered that most of the physicians who deploy robotic remote presence in the ICU were leading professionals with expertise in critical care medicine.
According to the authors, all survey respondents focus on progressing with the technology and anticipate that robotic technology will contribute to enhanced patient care in addition to providing patient and family satisfaction.
