Lockheed Martin to Adopt Coda’s Echoscope Sensor for New AUV

Lockheed Martin has selected Coda Octopus Group’s advanced patented Echoscope 3-D imaging sonar to be used in a new fleet of autonomous subsea inspection vehicles.

Echoscope provides unique sensory inputs for Marlin Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), thereby contributing to the creation of real-time 3-D structural models up to a depth of 1,000 ft, despite water clarity. The Marlin AUV is currently under final development testing, and is scheduled to be launched into the market by this year end.

Coda Octopus President of Technology, Blair Cunningham stated that the company anticipates providing Echoscope-based real-time 3D modeling capability for oil and gas operating companies. As part of this initiative, Coda has delivered over four Echoscopes, achieving positive outcomes in pre-production models and trials.

When deployed for subsea inspection operations, Echoscopes ensure improved operational safety in complex environments, excellent data density, and enhanced productivity. Selection was made owing to the sensor’s potential to generate real-time point cloud images of underwater environments.

Established as Coda Technologies in 1994, the Coda Octopus Group operates from its Florida-based HQ. With its global expansion, every Group company of Coda is a technology innovator having excellent sonar expertise. In addition to offering novel technologies for oil and gas companies, and custom engineering and development for defense applications, Coda Group provides one of its major innovations “Coda Echoscope”, which is the first real time 3D sub sea sonar. The Echoscope is at the center of Underwater Inspection System and ideal for deployment in homeland security, and other applications in international ports.
