Lockheed Martin has selected Coda Octopus Group’s advanced patented Echoscope 3-D imaging sonar to be used in a new fleet of autonomous subsea inspection vehicles.
Echoscope provides unique sensory inputs for Marlin Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV), thereby contributing to the creation of real-time 3-D structural models up to a depth of 1,000 ft, despite water clarity. The Marlin AUV is currently under final development testing, and is scheduled to be launched into the market by this year end.
Coda Octopus President of Technology, Blair Cunningham stated that the company anticipates providing Echoscope-based real-time 3D modeling capability for oil and gas operating companies. As part of this initiative, Coda has delivered over four Echoscopes, achieving positive outcomes in pre-production models and trials.
When deployed for subsea inspection operations, Echoscopes ensure improved operational safety in complex environments, excellent data density, and enhanced productivity. Selection was made owing to the sensor’s potential to generate real-time point cloud images of underwater environments.
