iRobot, a supplier of solutions based on robotic technology, has been presented with a $12.7 M order for 68 of iRobot’s model 310 SUGV robots and spares kits to be delivered to the U.S. Army Contracting Command in Warren, Michigan. The completion of deliveries is scheduled for August 31, 2012.

Marking the second order under a requirements deal, the U.S. Army is now entitled to procure iRobot 310 SUGV robots and spares kits through September 2015. So far, around 138 robots and spares kits have been provided under the contract. Based on the delivery orders, the total current value reached $24 M.
Featured with dexterous manipulator and wearable controller, the iRobot 310 SUGV is a man-portable robot. It is a compact and lighter version of the combat-efficient iRobot PackBot. It is capable of navigating through harsh environments and dangerous situations, while ensuring the mobile EOD technicians, infantry troops, combat engineers, and various other personnel with innovative technology.
According to interim general manager of iRobot’s Defense & Security business unit, Tim Trainer, the 310 SUGV being designed for dismounted EOD operations shows excellent versatility and adaptability. The robot can be equipped with a variety of payloads and sensors, through which warfighters and public safety professionals can be assured of safe operation while carrying out situational awareness in several missions.
iRobot has supplied over 4,500 unmanned ground vehicles to the global military and civil defense forces.
