’Robot with Smarts’ Participates in BDC Grand Prize for Innovation

Inovatech Engineering devised an innovation project titled ‘Robot with Smarts’.

Along with eight other finalists, it is competing for the $100,000 Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) Grand Prize for Innovation, and welcomes online voting.

The 2008-established Inovatech manufactures robotic cell machines for the structural steel industry. These devices surpass the average robot on the shop floor in terms of performance. It can read customized drawings and is capable enough to make precision cuts in steel beams and plates.

Inovatech will expand its product line to include SteelPro 900 that can read 3-D, 2-D and bevel drawings. Upon programming, this robotic application can efficiently perform complex and challenging manual tasks that are considered to be beyond robotic capability.

BDC Senior Vice President, Marketing and Public Affairs, Michel Bergeron said that it is a milestone for this project to arrive at the finals of the BDC Young Entrepreneur Award contest. Canadians are now given the opportunity and liberty to select the right project for the following year. This voting will help in achieving the Grand Prize. Every finalist competing for the Grand Prize for Innovation includes projects that can promote prosperity and development. The eight finalists have demonstrated that they are capable of carrying out a successful business, besides being established as industrial pioneers of future.

Voting for the 2012 BDC Young Entrepreneur Award contest will be held from May 30 to June 19 and opportunity is being offered to general public to vote once a day.
