The University of Alaska-Fairbanks (UAF) team, comprising members from the University of Washington’s Applied Physics Laboratory and the Northwest Aerial Robotics Cluster (NWARC), has received $47 million worth Basic Ordering Agreement award from the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division.
As per this agreement, the UAF team will initiate new efforts to examine payload issues like payload production, airspace access, incorporation and assessment related to unmanned air vehicles.
The University of Washington Applied Physics Laboratory offers its rich experience in the Department of Defense as University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) to the recently formed Northwest Aerial Robotics Cluster, thereby developing novel technologies for unraveling the Navy’s issues.
NWARC comprises state and local governments, both small scale and large scale regional businesses, academic organizations from Alaska, Oregon, States of Washington and Idaho assisting the Department of Homeland Security, National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, Small Business Administration and the Department of Defense.
This agreement is the first Navy BOA award to include a regional innovation cluster. Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division has taken the step to serve as a new partner to the government with latest technology groups to develop novel ideas for progressing technology and economy derived from recognized technological abilities in a particular region including automated unmanned aerial vehicles, electronic warfare and spectrum defense. These innovations pave way for upcoming joint latest technology prospects between the Department of Defense Science, the Northwest Aerial Robotics Cluster and the Department of Defense Science and Technology community.
