Northrop Grumman Foundation Supports VEX Robotics Competition through Sponsorship

VEX Robotics Competition World Championship 2012, taking place from April 19 to 21, includes over 10,000 participants from middle and high school, university students, mentors and educators from almost 20 countries. Anaheim Convention Center will accommodate this event, which will be conducted as free to the public.

Northrop Grumman Foundation functions as the first-time sponsor for this 2012 program and its volunteers have invested their expertise and time onsite during the competition.

Organized by Robotics Education and Competition (REC) Foundation, this fifth-year VEX Robotics Competition benefits the present advanced generation of students. The competition reflects the integration of digital prototyping, applied physics, leadership, mathematics, computer programming, teamwork and combined problem solving.

Among the 5,000 robotics teams, 600 teams, along with their robots were selected to compete in this 2012 competition, against the 2011-2012 season game VEX Gateway competitors.

According to the president of the Northrop Grumman Foundation, Sandra Evers-Manly, the Northrop Grumman Foundation’s sponsorship support will enable VEX Robotics Competition to continue encouraging and preparing the students for a bright career in robotics through science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education.

Prior to participating at the competition, the team spent several months in designing, constructing, and programming the robots to outsmart the teams in over 300 events during the VEX Robotics Competition. The teams have custom-built their robots based on the VEX Robotics Design System to compete in the powerful Gateway, where two alliances including two teams played against each other at a 12'x12' square field. The more number of colored balls placed within the mounted circular goals, more the score.
