Ravens Robotics, the High School Robotics Team of Waterford School has won the 2012 Utah Regional FIRST Robotics Competition.
The alliance partners of Ravens Robotics, including Arizona-based Team Plasma and Prototype X of the Leonardo Center, triumphed at a multi-day tournament involving 43 teams from ten diverse states. FIRST Robotics Competition is an international robotics program for high school students, intended in promoting science and technology expertise through an outstanding cooperative competitive scenario.
The competition was held in Salt Lake City, from March 15 to 17, at the Maverik Center. Each team played 11 matches to score a spot in the elimination bracket. As a runner up, the Ravens Robotics team stepped inside the elimination rounds. By intensely co-operating with its two alliance partners, it triumphed over the coveted premier alliance in the quarterfinal round. Following this victory, the team was able to take over the semi-final and final rounds. The Team Plasma and Prototype X, winning alliance team of Ravens Robotics, have been qualified to progress to the FIRST Robotics World Championship in St. Louis, from April 25-28.
The Robotics team at Waterford has participated in the Utah Regional competition, now for the third time. At the 2012 Utah Regional FIRST Robotics Competition, the team demonstrated building the robot, presented an improved design, game strategy and driver training. Students and mentors have put in a lot of efforts in achieving the maximum efficiency in prototyping, skills, and testing subsystems of robots.
