The Boston FIRST Robotics Competition’s Regional Planning Committee recently declared that 53 teams from various countries will participate in its Boston Regional robotics competition.
The event will take place at Boston University’s Agganis Arena, between March 23 and 24, 2012. The event is open to the public, offering a free-entry.
This year’s game titled ‘Rebound Rumble’ will have two groups of three robots competing on a flat 27x54 foot field made up of several basketball hoops mounted at various heights. On shooting a ball into the hoop, the robot gains points for its alliance. Depending on the high hoop in which the basketball scores, the robot’s alliance will get more points. The alliance scoring the largest number of points during the 135-sec match will be declared as the winner.
MIT Mechanical Engineer and host of PBS’s Design Squad, Jamie Heywood will speak at the event on Saturday, March 24, inspiring the students and attendees at the event.
The Rebound Rumble jury encompasses innovators and experts from BBN Technologies, MIT Lincoln Labs, Olin College, Booz Allen Hamilton, and Kiva Systems.
This year’s competition achieved grants and financial supports from various corporations and educational institutions of the region such as State Street Bank, Boston Scientific, Boston University, Google, National Grid, Textron Systems, and The Math Works.
This is the seventh year for the annual Boston Regional event, which takes place every year with thousands of attendees and participants. The FIRST Robotics Competition has now gained global popularity.
