EDAP TMS SA, a company specializing in therapeutic ultrasound, declared that it will collaborate with PanAm HIFU to provide prostate cancer patients of North America with minimally invasive HIFU treatment, following the deployment of an Ablatherm device in Cancun, Mexico. Located in Sarasota, FL, PanAm HIFU is a urology practice that treats prostate cancer patients with Ablatherm-HIFU in Cancun, Mexico and also London, England.
According to the Chief Executive Officer of EDAP TMS, Marc Oczachowski, on achieving the distribution patent for its Ablatherm-HIFU device, again in the Caribbean and Canada early this year, the company has received several orders from the U.S. urologists. Furthermore, the company has entered into an agreement with PanAm HIFU and its team of medical experts to offer HIFU technology- based treatment for prostate cancer. With previous experience in the United Kingdom on EDAP's Ablatherm technology, the new partnership will enable PanAm HIFU to implement Ablatherm HIFU technology in Cancun, Mexico to offer effective treatments in April 2012 for prostate cancer patients.
The medical director and urologist of PanAm HIFU, Dr. Ronald Wheeler, M.D., said that this new facility, besides treating the patients will also serve as a platform for other U.S. physicians, who wish to be familiar with the techniques involved in robotic Ablatherm technology. A large number of positive outcomes have been received from the patients who underwent this novel prostate cancer treatment with EDAP's Ablatherm-HIFU device. In Cancun, 'medical tourism' including five-star hospital facilities is available.
