A team of students from the College of Engineering and Applied Science of the University of Cincinnati, under the guidance of Cheryll Dunn present new, innovative robotic approaches every year, thereby inspiring school students in robotics.
This year’s competition titled “Where in the Neighborhood Is Dr. Dunn” will have several middle and high school students from the tri-state participating in it. The students will be given a topic, which entails designing a robot and arriving on a conclusion. The 2012 competition’s topic is energy efficiency, and will be held on March 17 at Shroder High School.
The challenges included in this competition: designing a neighborhood with eight structures, creating changes to it and implementing steps to maintain the changes and constructing a robot that will contribute to solutions. General assessment was made based on the design skills, persistence, curiosity, creativity, and determination of the participants. Each team will be judged on the number of energy- efficiency promoting structures being constructed, the robot’s functions, their solution’s creativity, oral presentation, floor display and table display presented by each team. The jury includes CEAS students and industry faculties.
The students will deliver a ten minute-presentation about their robotic project, followed by the transformation made on the community. First- and second- place awards will be given based on the highest score. However, individual awards will be presented to the middle and high school ranks and an overall winner. Perseverance award will be granted to the best team.
