According to a large number of medical experts, radiation for prostate cancer or prostate cancer surgery is not prevalent among aged patients.
A considerable number of patients aged above 65 years are successfully being treated for prostate cancer by Dr. David Samadi, Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery at The Mount Sinai Medical Center.
A study conducted by Yale School of Medicine stated that almost 40,000 prostate cancer patients signing up for treatment were aged over 67. Older men with moderate-risk diagnosis are choosing active prostate cancer treatment. Hence, this treatment seems to be aggressive rather than being necessary.
A PSA blood test and digital rectal exam (DRE) are performed to diagnose Prostate cancer, which will be followed by biopsy if the values are unusual. The existing prostate cancer diagnostic tools need to be further upgraded to precisely determine the phase of cancer. The aspects to be considered prior to the treatment include age, lifestyle, and wellness of the patients as well as treatment side effects, and other diagnosis specifications.
Treatment of prostate cancer regardless of age is illustrated with one of the successful achievements of Dr. Samadi, wherein a 79-year-old gentleman was treated for advanced prostate cancer. He underwent robotic surgery and is now completely recovered and in good health. It was one of the unique surgeries performed by Dr.Samedi as the patient’s PSA levels were reduced to zero, in just six weeks following the surgery.
This is a clear manifestation of successful minimally invasive robotic surgery for prostate cancer treatment.
