Blue Belt Technologies, a medical device company declared that it has obtained the CE Mark for the Navio PFS System.
The company intends developing advanced smart surgical instruments that enable precise robotic control for orthopedic procedures and even for otolaryngology (ENT), spinal and neurosurgery.
Initially, the company's Unicondylar Knee Replacement (UKR), also called partial knee replacement gained wide acceptance in the European markets. A partial knee replacement is surgical implant procedure that concerns replacing either the medial or lateral compartment of the knee. Unlike total joint replacement, partial knee replacements retain the bones and effectively perform replacement surgical procedures for patients with single compartment cartilage damage, thereby resulting in positive outcomes. In the present scenario, most of the partial knee replacement surgeries are being performed with unreliable instruments, increasing the rates of revision and retreatment.
The Navio PFS System of Blue Belt employs patented technology to complement the surgical procedure with a compact, intelligent, cutting tool combined with versatile surgical planning and navigation software, thereby enabling the surgeons to have better control over the procedure. While performing bone shaping procedures using less invasive incisions, the surgeons rely on Navio PFS System for safety and high precision.
According to the Co- Chair of Blue Belt's Scientific Advisory Board, Jess Lonner, M.D., with increase in patients with arthritis, there is an increasing demand for partial knee replacement surgery. The unique ability of Navio PFS System to couple the conservative unicondylar bone preparation with high precision, offers extended durability and rapid functional recovery, besides being outstanding.
