According to the survey, the use of remote monitoring devices is recognized as a strategic investment that results in the development of an organization to be an accountable care organization (ACO). An ACO’s objective is to improve the quality of health care and to actively participate in shared investments. A dynamic management team at the organization will motivate and leverage the choice of this technology application in the home health environment, enabling a more active data collection among a patient population that will contribute to better business decisions and improved patient care.
A survey was conducted with 125 consumers and the resulting data confirmed that though the remote monitoring devices have outstanding features, its usage among the survey respondents is quite low. Data privacy, security, development of relationship with the medical profession should be upgraded for an improved technology adoption.
According to the study, remote monitoring devices are defined as the devices deployed by a person that subsequently transmits data into a database. The hand-held blood pressure and heart rate monitoring device are example of remote monitoring devices. The research, conducted in December 2011 and January 2012, analyzed the utilization of remote monitoring devices in hospitals, besides assessing the customer’s interest in this innovative technology.
