Toyota Robot to Assist Stroke Patients

Toyota Motor Corp in partnership with Fujita Health University is developing a new robot to help stroke victims suffering from one-sided paralysis by assisting them to walk.

Toyota is determined to include robotics as one of its major businesses and the company is working on various strategies for transforming robots into effective tools which can profoundly help the paralyzed victims. The officials of the company have reported that competency and compactness are their major goals in developing this robot.

The paralyzed people lock their legs due to  fear of falling while bending their knees, resulting in a clumsy way of walking. The Toyota robot can sense their leg movements and with the help of a motor it will offer extensive support to their knees.

In December 2007 Toyota had reported that it will focus on building ‘assistance robots,’ and in the beginning of 2010 these robots will be deployed for various utilities.
