Remote MineHunting System Completes Critical Reliability Testing

The Remote MineHunting System (RMS) from Lockheed Martin has completed 500 hours of critical reliability testing on the U.S. Navy’s Remote Multi-Mission Vehicle (RMMV). This achievement is an important milestone in the testing of the system.

RMS System

The RMS system will be used for conducting mine reconnaissance capabilities to the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). The RMMV is an unmanned, semi-autonomous, semi-submersible vehicle, which tows along a variable-depth sensor that is capable of identifying potential threats under the sea.

The VP of mission and unmanned systems at Lockheed martin explained that RMMV plays an important role in the mine countermeasures conducted by the Navy. With the success of the testing of the RMMV, the system moves closer to being operational on board the LCS. The testing was conducted on Palm Beach, Fla, with the completion of the testing, the planned development and testing cycles that were intended for system improvement and reliability have been successfully completed. The reliability and operational availability of the RMS system has been established. The RMS comprises of the RMMV, the sonar sensor towed by RMMV, launch and retierval system and communication equipment and related software.
