Boy Scouts of America Introduced to Real-World Robotics Curriculum

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) will soon be performing robot-building activities apart from their regular camping routines.

The scouts will be competing for the Robotics merit badge, which is part of the 31 merit badges that are part of the STEM initiatives. Such activities will inspire youth to explore engineering and science concepts that play a vital part in the Oklahoma technological industry.

There are however some logistical challenges associated with offering these badges to the youth from organisations such as the BSA, these challenges can be overcome by teaming the BSA with local organisations that are focussed on STEM initiatives. TechJOYnT Education Foundation has been creating a learning environment, resources and curriculum that will enable the BSA troops 267 in gaining knowledge on personal robotic concepts. The competition for earning the merit badges will be held on 10 December at Oklahoma City. The guide of the Troop 267 considered this as an opportunity for the BSA youth to master robotic skills and gain hands on experience in building robots. Around 30 scouts from the Troop 267 will be participating in the competition. The ability of the BSA in tackling problems and their creativity will be brought to the fore through the competition. Apart from learning STEM concepts the scouts will also learn soft skills like team work, mutual respect etc by working on building robots.
