Intelligent Hospital Systems Launches Improved Robotic Intravenous Automation System

Intelligent Hospital Systems (IH Systems) has launched an improved version of the Robotic Intravenous Automation System (RIVA). The RIVA system is a self-contained unit, which is useful in automatically filling IV syringes and bags.

The improved version of RIVA comes with a number of features such as faster processing, improved workflow, longer run times without human intervention and improved handling of off-the-shelf items. Implementing the system will provide the users an increase of 50% in the output. The enhanced version has the capability of handling bags from Hospira, Kabi, Baxter and Fresenius.

The chief technology officer at IH Systems explained that the earlier version of RIVA was designed to cater to the needs of a fully-automated IV compounding system which were used in paediatrics, central fill, adult and Chemo markets. The RIVA system is compliant with all the USP 797 rules and pharmacies can readily use the system for compounding ready-to-use sterile doses, which are both patient specific and non-patient specific. The system efficiently compounds these doses accurately. RIVA has established a flawless performance record by compounding more than 700,000 patient doses and 30,000 Tryptic Soy Broth media fills in hospital pharmacies so far. Global VP of Marketing and Sales, Bill Shields noted that since the company has a wide range of expertise in the field, the companies are confident enough to innovate, allocate resources once again and once again make out-sourced doses, a part of in-house operations and under their supervision.
