Accelr8 Enhances Capabilities of BACcel Blood-Based Automatic Diagnostic Systems

Accelr8 Technology has declared that the newly extended test methods BACcel rapid diagnostic test library and the automation system have completed technical feasibility studies.

The BACcel is a multi-pathogen, multiple drug resistance blood-based diagnostic panel that provides results on the same day.

Accelr8 has come up with an innovative concept of providing blood-culture test results on the same day by adopting the respiratory infection test methods for positive blood cultures. The diagnostic panel covers multiple drug resistance types and multiple pathogens for each pathogen. The test results from the BACcel tests can be availed by the end of the second day itself, compared to 3 to 4 days’ time taken by other blood-culture tests. The second concept is a unique concept for automating the preparation of specimen. This method efficiently filters out the materials in the specimen that may interfere with the evaluation and prepare the sample in less than 10 minutes time. The BACcel lab prototype fluidics robot is used for doing most of the preparation. It can be used as a standalone product as well as integrated with other systems in the lab. The president of the company explained that the company had plans of expanding their presence in pharmaceutical and clinical markets across the US, Europe and China.
