FIRST Commences Green Fundraising Programs for Robotics Teams from Schools

For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) was founded in order to attract the youth towards science and technology. FIRST has developed a unique fundraising program called the Green Fundraising program, conducted by robotics teams right from elementary to high school.

The fundraising initiative is now available to consumers. FIRST has spiced up the fund raising concept by introducing the sale of energy-efficient devices for raising funds. During the program LED bulbs will be sold to raise funds. The seed for the concept of FIRST Green initiatives was first sown in the year 2010. This program was not only successful in raising funds and making the robotic teams self-sufficient but also helped them in creating a greener environment for the future. By selling LEDs the teams will gain marketing and leadership skills.

The LED bulbs are called FIRST Green e-watt saver and come with the capability of dimming. The proceeds from the sales of these LEDs accounts for nearly 20% of the funds raised for conducting FIRST Robotics Competition. These LED bulbs have been designed by the Lighting Source Group, which is based at Florida. The manufacture of these bulbs is done in Mexico. FIRST has an agreement with the Lighting Science Group for reselling the A19 bulbs. These bulbs are dimmable, omni-directional, last for 250,000 hours and come with a five-year warranty. These bulbs are approved by the FCC and are UL-listed in U.S and Canada.
