Astech Projects will be showcasing some of its latest projects and its custom services at the PPMA show which is to be held at Birmingham, UK from 27 to 29 September.
Astech Projects is a top player in the area of system integration and machine building. Among the products that will be displayed, one is the Motoman SDA20D, which is a twin arm robot having the Bionic Finn gripper from Festo. This robot is commonly used in the commercial processing and packaging automation industry. Astech will be giving a live demonstration of the robot’s capabilities, highlighting the flexibility feature in particular.
The twin-arm robot exercises 15 axes of movement, 7 in each arm, and a single axis for rotating the base with 360 degrees movement. The twin arms are capable of working together for handling heavy objects and can also function independently moving at the same time. A gentle yet firm gripping is provided by the Festo Bionic Gripper. The gripper adjusts flexibly to accommodate objects of various shapes and sizes. The gripper exercises gentle grip on fragile objects. A special laser sintering process called rapid prototyping is chosen for manufacturing the gripper. In this process each individual part of the gripper is printed on 0.1 mm layers of polyacrylamide powder. This powder fuses together to give shape to the solid gripper. The integrated robotic arm is best suited for applications like packaging, picking and processing in the medical, pharmaceutical, automotive or aerospace fields.
