Cardica announced that its C-Port Flex-A Anastomosis System will be demonstrated at the presentation at the East Carolina Heart Institute-International Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiothoracic Surgery Summit (ECHI-ISMICS).
The summit will be featuring various presentations on robotic cardiac bypass procedures with cardiothoracic surgeons as the audience. The summit will be held at Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Husam Balkhy, a famous cardio-thoracic surgeon and the director of Center for Robotic and Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery at Wisconsin heart Hospital will be giving a presentation on the topic “Robotic Coronary Revascularization, Connectors and Pearls”.
The President and CEO of Cardica, Bernard A. Hausen, pointed out that Dr. Balkhy has been using the C-Port Anastomosis system for a considerable amount of time in minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures for connecting the bypass graft vessels. He added that the presentation by Dr. Balkhy will reveal the advantage that the C-Port automated anastomosis device offers over conventional methods to all the participating cardiothoracic surgeons. Dr. Balkhy’s presentation will delve deep into the usage of the C-Port system in connecting the graft vessels and also provide details on the highlighting features and the advantages of using the system. The presentation will also throw light on the mechanical aspects of deploying a connector on a beating heart housed inside the closed chest, known as the totally endoscopic coronary artery bypass (TECAB) procedure.
Apart from being described in Dr. Balkhy’s presentation, the C-Port systems from Cardica have been reviewed in The Annals of Thoracic Surgery. The article describes the usage of Robotic Coronary Anastomotic Connectors and reviews around 120 such surgical cases.
