MesaMax, the rugged workstation from MaxVision is set to become an important component of the Unmanned Aircraft Systems One System Ground Control Station (OSGCS) at AAI. The OSGCS is a portable ground control station used by the US Army and Marine Corps.
The control station is used for operating numerous unmanned aircrafts present at battlefields and operation areas to gather intelligence videos. The OSCGS was developed by a joint effort between MaxVision and AAI.
The Mesamax workstation is designed to withstand extremes of weather, dust and debris. It has been chosen by AAI to carry out all the computing and processing data for OSGCS. The workstation will also be establishing a digital link with the Shadow so that the operators can communicate with the aerial vehicles. The warfighters will be provided with required situational awareness while on missions by the video received from the Shadow and processed by the workstation. With the help of graphics provided by MesaMax, operators will be able to see the display graphics very clearly irrespective of environmental conditions.
Bruce Imsand, the CEO and CTO of MaxVision, claimed that the new workstation uses the best of COTS motherboards and provide unmatched graphics in extreme military environments. He added that all the COTS components are completely sealed and provided with efficient air exchange facility. The size is extremely compact and the slide-out extensions are less than 12”, which offers stability even with wind blowing at 35 knots. Some of the key features of the workstation are a temperature tolerance of -32 to +60°C, includes Intel Xeon 5600 processors, Dual 22” display, able to support 12 removable solid state devices, nVidiaQuadro FX 1800 graphics system and it is certified by Mil-Std 810 for resisting shock, vibration, temperature, fungus and salt fog. MaxVision intends to display MesaMax at the AUVSI to be held at Washington between August 16 and August 19, 2011 and the Space and Missile Defense Conference to be held at Huntsville between the August 15 and August 18,2011.
