Massey University is very closely associated with the Rugby World Cup 2011. The event is the largest sporting event that New Zealand has been involved in this year. Staff, students and alumni of the Massey University are providing full support for the event.
Massey University’s World Champion robotics team MESS1 from the School of Engineering and Advanced Technology on the Albany campus will be in action in the Robotics World Cup at the ‘Cloud’ on Auckland’s waterfront. Team MESS1 were crowned VEX college Champions for 2011. MESS1 won against 34 other University robotics teams from around the world.
The event which will be held from October 11 - 13 is part of a showcase featuring home grown technology and innovation from a range of industries and aims to raise awareness and create business opportunities among Rugby World Cup visitors.
Teams participating in the actual rugby world cup 2011 are Argentina, Australia, Canada, England, Fiji, France, Geogia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Namibia, New Zealand, Romania, Russia, Samoa, Scotland, South Africa, Tonga, USA and Wales.
The staff at the School of Linguistics and International Languages, located on the Manawatu campus, are teaching Palmerston North business people how to greet people in Spanish in preparation for the University hosting the Argentina team.
