Guthrie's Robert Packer Hospital offers robotic surgery for patients who have to undergo a hysterectomy or a surgery for kidney cancer.
Guthrie Healthcare System purchased the $2 million dollars worth da Vinci Robotic Surgical System. Unlike in conventional surgeries, the da Vinci robot performs operations using tiny incisions of keyhole size. The hospital allowed the public and the media persons to test the robot on July 19th.
Surgeons claim that the da Vinci system will help patients to undergo fewer complications, less scarring, and faster recovery. MD of Guthrie Healthcare System, Dr. David Bertsch, stated that the da Vinci Robotic Surgical System offers a more accurate operation with less pain and less mobility.
The surgeon can achieve a three-dimensional view using the viewfinder of the system during operation. The surgeon’s fingers are hooked on to the system, equipping surgeons with numerous arms with greater movement capabilities when compared to a human hand. Dr. Bertsch, MD, stated that the system can be used to manage the power source and instruments simultaneously to increase the success of the surgical procedure.
The robot is utilized in prostate or hysterectomy and kidney surgeries. It might be used for cardiac surgery also. Officials at Guthrie study an individual’s history before concluding if they need to undergo a robotic surgery.
