Topcon Positioning Systems (TPS) releases the MS Series of robotic total stations which are measuring stations that offer a high degree of precision.
These measuring stations have been currently released in North and South America. The Senior Vice President of TPS, Denny Welch, explained that the MS series consists of the MS05AX and MS1AX stations. The former offers an accuracy of 0.5” angle, while the latter offers 1” angle accuracy. Welch stated that MS05AX is suited for ultra-precise measurements while the other station is useful for long-range and versatile measurements. The MS Series can be used for large scale 3-D measurements as well as for 2-D monitoring applications.
Welch mentioned that with the precision and versatility that the MS series has to offer, it finds a number of applications including the Department of Transportations (DOTS), high-accuracy land surveys, tunnelling, high-end civil engineering firms and many more. The MS Series total stations can be used along with reflective sheets, prisms or reflectorless creating alternatives and high efficiency for even large monitoring fields. Welch added that the pre-scan function in the MS series helps to increase the accuracy and the monitoring range. The pre-scan function enables “teaching” the instrument the position of targets in the monitoring field. Welch considered the high speed performance of the series as a significant feature that is useful for long distance tracking and measurements. The series comes with an auto pointing range of 1000 m and a non-prism range of 400 m. According to Welch, the fast turning speed coupled with high accuracy make the MS series a good choice for high precision topographic survey applications.
