Intel Capital, an investment company belonging to Intel, has made an investment of $13 million towards the development of Humanoid Robots by Aldebaran Robotics.
The financial aid from Intel would be of great help to Aldebaran to expand the application of the Humanoid to health and social care sectors. Marcos Battisti, the MD of Intel Capital in Western Europe and Israel, stated that Intel Capital has been interested in robotics for some time, and they have come forward to fund Aldebaran’s project convinced by the promising potential of their solutions.
Aldebaran is currently focussed on manufacturing and selling programmable, sophisticated humanoids that cater to education, research markets and personal services. The humanoids are capable of facial and voice recognition. They are capable of recognising the location they are in and have a built-in platform for application development. The investment is beneficial to Intel as well, by providing an opportunity to get familiar with the peculiarities of the robotic industry, Bruno Maisonnier, the CEO of Aldebaran, expressed that they would derive benefits such as business and technological advancements by linking up with Intel. He was confident that their products would improve the manufacturing efficiencies and research activities in the market. The funding was additionally supported by iSource, CDC Innovation and Credit Agricole private equity.
