Surgeons to Enhance Prostate Cancer Patients' Life Using Robotic Technique

Dr. David B. Samadi, Chief of Robotics and Minimally Invasive Surgery at the Mount Sinai Medical Center situated in New York explained about a research study on treating prostate cancer. Details about the research study were published by the New England Journal of Medicine.

The study involved working closely with 700 prostate cancer patients over a duration of 15 years. The prostate cancer patients were divided into two groups – "prostate surgery" and "watchful waiting" groups. Dr. Samadi stated that the patients in the surgery group showed a lower risk of dying. He has done more than 3,300 robotic prostate surgeries till date.

Samadi mentioned that the study results revealed that with the removal of the prostate gland, patients in the surgical group witnessed a 38% decrease in the risk of dying. He also added that the stage of cancer can be determined for patients undergoing surgery unlike other prostate cancer treatment alternatives.

Samadi developed the SMART (Samadi Modified Advanced Robotic Technique) surgery to deliver a potency recovery rate of 85% within one year, a continence recovery rate of 96% and a cancer cure rate of 97%.
