Engineering Design Day at the University of Arizona in 2011 is set to display more than 50 design projects at the UA Student Union Memorial Center. The 9th edition of the Engineering Design Day is being sponsored by the University of Arizona College of Engineering.
The 50 plus designs that will be showcased on May 3, 2011 are representative of engineering designs that could maximize energy usage, solve medical challenges and much more. The projects are to be displayed in the main ballroom of the UA Student Union. There will be larger displays at the amphitheatre courtyard on the north side of the building.
Some of the more eye catching projects involve a better BP solution for the deep water well cap which was sponsored by Lockheed Martin. Another articulated harvester for Jojoba farming which does not use whale oil has been sponsored by Aronstam Limited Family Partnership. There is also a solar panel power monitoring system sponsored by Texas Instruments that saves energy by maximizes solar panel efficiency.
About 15 cash awards will be given away at the Engineering Design Day Awards Ceremony which will begin at 4 p.m. The teams and individuals who demonstrated excellence in various areas will be feted by awards that are worth $ 10,000 combined. The awards have been sponsored by by BAE Systems, Texas Instruments, Hydronalix, Edmund Optics, PADT, Raytheon, Rincon Research, Technical Documentation Consultants of Arizona, Honeywell and Sargent Aerospace and Defense.
