Several months before Dr Russell Gornichec, a bariatric surgeon of Oklahoma City, carried out Oklahoma’s first robotic weight reduction surgery. Till date, Dr. Gornichec and Deaconess Hospital have carried out around twenty robot-assisted weight loss procedures.
The robotic procedure is not automatically performed by the robot. It just replicates the movements of the surgeon. After converting the surgeon’s motions into accurate movements, the robot translates these precise movements to its arms. It also provides a colorful three -dimensional field of vision to the surgeon. While performing laparoscopic procedure, the surgeon will assume a standing position, use lengthy medical equipment and view a traditional TV screen. But using the da Vinci surgical system, the surgeon can sit comfortably and manipulate surgical systems and camera without the requirement of shifting position or looking away at the television screen.
Dr. Gornichec has stated that the deployment of robot-assisted procedure has made risky surgeries safer and the patient will experience minimum difficulties and reduced postoperative distress. He added that the people of Oklahoma have got a new less-invasive option in their struggle against obesity.
Weight loss procedure is an established long-standing solution for those fighting against extreme obesity. These surgeries have become safer and the robotic procedures continue to provide effective surgical choices against obesity.
