In Orange County in California, at the UC Irvine Spine Program, Dr. Samuel Bederman and Dr. Nitin Bhatia have performed the first chain of robotic Spine Surgeries.
The Physician utilizing this technology could reduce complication rates and enhance outcome for their patients. Both the doctors are famous, leading in the field of robotic spine surgery and they get the credit of performing these surgeries in the Western US for the first time.
According to Dr. Bhatia, the technology would not only improve results, but also reduce the surgery times along with improving the healing in the spinal surgery patients. Dr. Bederman revealed that UC Irvine has long been using the da Vinci Robotic System for robotic surgery and the addition of this new technology, the Mazor Spine Assist surgical robot, would ensure UC Irvine’s leadership status in the field.
Dr. Bhatia, who serves as Director of the Spine Center and Chief of the Orthopedic Spinal Surgery, is a Board Certified and Fellowship Trained Spinal Surgeon. A non surgical and multi-disciplinary approach is followed for all patients, so that patients can improve without resorting to surgery. If surgery has to be done, then Dr. Bhatia’s expertise in state-of –the –art techniques in various disciplines would be highly beneficial to cure the patient with minimum discomfort and recovery times.
