DP's Penguinbot VI took the fourth place following the first day of qualifying matches in San Diego. The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy's robotics team, also known as Team 1717, got in touch with their robot on Thursday at the San Diego Sports Arena.
The team 1717’s robot, Penguinbot VI was subjected to modifications by setting up their work station on the arena floor (called The Pit). The team has taken efforts to update the assembly with new parts to ensure the proper functioning of the robot.
The team had designed the robot with amazing capabilities such as hanging inner tubes. The Dos Pueblos Engineering Academy's (DPEA) Penguinbot VI won the first match after the game was initiated. The team deployed their mini-bot in the final 20 seconds of the 2min, 15 sec. match. The mini-bot shot to the top of a 10 foot tower in less than 1 second to gain maximum bonus points.
This years' game, called LOGO MOTION, involves having the larger robots to pick up large inflated game pieces and putting them on pegs on a wall. Penguinbot VI, a combination of two robots, has one retractable arm equipped with two ‘jaws' and are controlled by the off-field students to pick up the inflated game pieces.
