Team Robotics Champion Win FIRST Robotics District Competition

Three teams of high school students from Auburn Hills, Pontiac, and Oxford have collaborated to win the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics District Competition at Kettering University.

The collaborated robotic team from southeast Michigan, called Robotics Champion, consisted of members from the Juggernauts of Pontiac, Killer Bees from Auburn Hills and T.O.R.C. from Oxford. The robotics contest hosted several matches for about two days in the university’s Recreation Center.

The team that qualified for the state finals was Metal & Soul of Capac, which won the esteemed Chairman's Award. A total of about 1,000 students participated on Friday and at least 1,500 visitors came on Saturday.

During the competition, high school students played a game called Logo Motion that required robots to move around on the field and place triangular, circular and square inflatable tubes on poles. Some teams had developed robots that deployed tiny robots that are capable of climbing poles to earn points.
